Samidori (literally "early-green") is one of the historical Uji cultivars used principally for tencha (the matcha base) and for high-grade matcha production. Samidori produces a vivid bright green leaf and a cup with notably balanced sweetness; it is one of the cultivars most commonly cited as canonical for Uji koicha matcha alongside Asahi and Okumidori.
