Ha Giang Province in Vietnam's far north (bordering Yunnan, China) is one of the country's principal sources of Shan Tuyet — "Snow Mountain" tea — picked from centuries-old wild Camellia sinensis trees in the Hoang Lien Son range. In 2022, 1,324 ancient Shan Tuyet trees in Ha Giang were officially recognised as Vietnam Heritage Trees. Hoang Su Phi District, in particular, produces Shan Tuyet at 800–2,000 m elevation; the trees grow without fertiliser or pesticide and have been harvested by ethnic minority communities (H'Mong, Dao) for generations.
