Laoshan, on the Yellow Sea coast in Shandong, is one of the northernmost commercial tea-growing regions in China. Cool nights, sea-air humidity, and a relatively short growing season produce a thicker, more robust green tea than the southern classics — nutty and bean-sweet, often picked off a Long Jing #43 cultivar transplanted north.
