Mengku (Shuangjiang County)

Měng Kù · 勐库 (勐庫)

Yunnan · China

Mengku is a township in Shuangjiang County of Lincang Prefecture and contains the legendary Bingdao village ("Ice Island") — the 1,640 m elevation source of some of the most expensive ancient- tree raw pu-erh in China. Bingdao itself was little known until around 2005, when Mengku Rongshi (a branch of Shuangjiang Mengku Tea Industry) released cakes from the village and brought the area to prominence. The Mengku tea population is one of the historical Camellia sinensis var. assamica seed-propagated landraces of southern Yunnan.
