Pasha is a tea region in Gelanghe Town of Menghai County, Xishuangbanna, sitting between the Nannuo and Bulang ranges with elevations from 1,200 to 2,000 m. Tea cultivation here goes back 1,000–1,300 years to the Tang and Song dynasties, when the ancestors of the Hani ethnic group began planting. Pasha holds roughly 1.93 km² of old tea-tree gardens, mostly several hundred years old; a "King Tea Tree" in the middle village is approximately 800 years old and now under government protection. The leaf has a distinct opening bitterness followed by a pronounced huigan (returning sweetness).
