Muzha is a district in Wenshan, southern Taipei, and one of the earliest tea-cultivation areas in Taiwan. In 1895 tea master Zhang Nai Miao brought the first Tieguanyin tea plants from Anxi (Fujian) here, planting them in soil reportedly very similar to Anxi's mineral profile — which is partly why the cultivar flourished. The Muzha style of Tieguanyin maintains the older, heavier roasting methods that Anxi itself has largely moved away from in favour of "jade" (light-oxidation) Tieguanyin.
