Nantou is the only land-locked county in Taiwan and the island's main oolong-tea-producing region. Two of the most famous Taiwanese oolongs originate here: Dong Ding (Tung Ting), from Mount Dong Ding in Lugu Township, and Lishan high-mountain oolong from the Central Mountain Range above Renai Township. The Qingxin (Qing Xin Wulong) cultivar that defines both was brought from the Wuyi Mountains of Fujian roughly 150 years ago.
