Youle Mountain (Jinuo)

Yōu Lè · 攸乐 (攸樂)

Yunnan · China

Youle Mountain — also called Jinuo Mountain after the Jinuo ethnic group whose ancestors cultivated tea here — is the southwesternmost of the Six Famous Ancient Tea Mountains, opposite Gedeng across the LuoSuo River. Some of the ancient tea trees here are claimed to date back to the Three Kingdoms period (220–280 CE). The cup is intensely bitter on opening with a quick sweet aftertaste, a faint aroma, and a light orange-yellow liquor — distinct from the softer, more aromatic east-of-river Six Famous Mountain profiles.
