Mengla

Měng Là · 勐腊 (勐臘)

Yunnan · China

Mengla County in Xishuangbanna sits east of the Lancang (Mekong) River and contains the Six Famous Ancient Tea Mountains (古六大茶山): Yiwu, Yibang, Manzhuan, Mangzhi, Gedeng, and Youle. These were the historical centres of pu-erh production during the Qing dynasty, when Yibang and Mansa were tribute teas. The mountains east of the river are still associated with softer, sweeter, more aromatic raw pu-erh in contrast to the bolder west- of-river styles (Bulang, Menghai).
