Xinyang is a prefecture-level city in southern Henan whose Pingqiao District, Guangshan, Xin and Luoshan counties produce Xinyang Maojian — a green tea harvested mid-April before the Grain Rain (Guyu) festival from the local Xinyang Quntizhong Camellia sinensis var. sinensis landrace, planted at 500–800 m elevation on Mt. Cheyun, Mt. Jiyun and Mt. Tianyun. The tea won a gold medal at the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition.
