Yibang is one of the Six Famous Ancient Tea Mountains (古六大茶山) of Mengla County, Xishuangbanna, and the highest of the six (565 m to 1,950 m). It was the distribution centre for the six mountains from the 1750s to the early 1900s; tea from Mansong village within Yibang was a Qing-dynasty tribute. Yibang is unusually a "small-leaf" ancient garden — most Yunnan ancient trees are large-leaf var. assamica — and its cup leans aromatic, floral, and soft, contrasting with the bolder Bulang/Menghai "west-of-river" styles.

Yibang's smaller leaf gives a more aromatic, floral cup than the typical large-leaf Yunnan; treat steep times slightly longer than for Banzhang. Soft and fragrant is the marker — sharp bitterness usually means the leaf is plantation, not gushu.

Aging potential

East-of-river ancient gushu like Yibang ages slowly and gracefully; expect 20+ years of development under stable storage.
