Zhuyeqing (Bamboo Leaf Green)
Zhú Yè Qīng · 竹叶青 (竹葉青)
Zhuyeqing ("Bamboo Leaf Green") is an early-spring green tea from the slopes of Mt. Emei (Wannian Temple, Qingyin Pavilion, Bailong Cave, and Heishui Temple) in Sichuan, picked between late February and early April. The buds are tiny, slim, flat, and slightly curved — visually like baby bamboo leaves, hence the name given by Foreign Minister Chen Yi in 1964 when he tasted the tea at Wannian Temple. Won a gold medal at the 1985 International Food Exposition.
