Lugu

Lù Gǔ · 鹿谷

Nantou · Taiwan

Lugu Township in Nantou County, Taiwan, contains Mount Dong Ding ("Frozen Summit") and is the original geographic source of Dong Ding oolong. The mountain's microclimate of sunny mornings and foggy afternoons is credited with the cultivar's flavour. Today the name Dong Ding is used more broadly than the strict mountain origin — consumers reading the label is the only assurance that the leaf was actually grown in Lugu.
