Sichuan is a southwestern Chinese province whose Mt. Mengding (Meng Shan) in Ya'an is, by tradition, the place where tea was first cultivated — a Taoist Master Wu Lizhen is said to have planted seven tea bushes there around 53–50 BCE. Today the mountain produces both the green Mengding Ganlu and the yellow Mengding Huangya, both with Tang-to-Qing-dynasty tribute-tea histories.
